I. Introduction

1. The European Union has submitted a proposal to list chlorpyrifos in Annex A to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, pursuant to paragraph 1 of Article 8 of the Convention (see annex to the present note). The proposal is being circulated as submitted and has not been formally edited. Additional information relating to the proposal is set out in document UNEP/POPS/POPRC.17/INF/4, as submitted by the European Union. The Secretariat’s verification of whether the proposal contains the information specified in Annex D to the Convention is set out in document UNEP/POPS/POPRC.17/INF/6.

At its nineteenth meeting, by decision POPRC-19/3, the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee adopted a risk profile for chlorpyrifos on the basis of the draft contained in the note by the Secretariat (UNEP/POPS/POPRC.19/4), as revised during the meeting. The text of the risk profile as adopted is set out in the annex to the present addendum. It has not been formally edited.

1. Decides, in accordance with paragraph 4 (a) of Article 8 of the Convention, that it is satisfied that the screening criteria have been fulfilled for alpha-HCH, as set out in the evaluation contained in the annex to the present decision;
2. Decides furthermore, in accordance with paragraph 6 of Article 8 of the Convention and paragraph 29 of decision SC-1/7 of the Conference of the Parties of the Stockholm Convention, to establish an ad hoc working group to review the proposal further and to prepare a draft risk profile in accordance with Annex E to the Convention;
3. Invites, in accordance with paragraph 4 (a) of Article 8 of the Convention, Parties and observers to submit to the Secretariat the information specified in Annex E before 2 February 2007.

1. Adopts the risk profile for alpha hexachlorocyclohexane set out in document UNEP/POPS/POPRC.3/20/Add.8; 2. Decides, in accordance with paragraph 7 (a) of Article 8 of the Convention, that alpha hexachlorocyclohexane is likely, as a result of longrange environmental transport, to lead to significant adverse human health and/or environmental effects such that global action is warranted; 3. Decides further, in accordance with paragraph 7 (a) of Article 8 of the Convention and paragraph 29 of decision SC-1/7 of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention, to establish an ad hoc working group to prepare a risk management evaluation that includes an analysis of possible control measures for alpha hexachlorocyclohexane in accordance with Annex F to the Convention; 4. Invites, in accordance with paragraph 7 (a) of Article 8 of the Convention, Parties and observers to submit to the Secretariat the information specified in Annex F before 5 February 2008.

    At its fourth meeting, the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee adopted the risk management evaluation for alpha hexachlorocyclohexane, on the basis of the draft contained in document UNEP/POPS/POPRC.4/8, as amended.
