Call for information and follow-up to the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention

Introduction

At its ninth meeting held in Geneva from 29 April to 10 May 2019, the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention agreed on the decisions contained in annex I to the report of the meeting, document UNEP/POPS/COP.9/30. Many of the decisions included invitations to Parties and others to provide information.

The following letter was sent to Parties and observers to solicit information sought in the decisions adopted by the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention at its ninth meeting. The individual invitations to submit information are organized by decisions. Information sought in each decision can be transmitted separately, since the deadlines for submission vary.

Similar letters have also been prepared to solicit information sought in the decisions adopted by the conferences of the Parties to the Basel and Rotterdam conventions at their 2019 meetings and are available on the Basel and Rotterdam convention’s websites.

4. Evaluation of the effectiveness of the procedure under paragraph 2(b) of Article 3 of the Convention
a. Transmission of certification from the importing State by Parties wishing to export chemicals listed in Annex A or B to a State not party to the Convention, as defined in paragraph 2 (d) of Article 3.

7. Actions related to perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), its salts and PFOA-related compounds

a. Report by each Party in the register of specific exemptions for the production and use of PFOA, its salts and PFOA-related compounds for the use of perfluorooctyl iodide for the production of perfluorooctyl bromide for the purpose of producing pharmaceutical products listed in Annex A to the Stockholm Convention justifying its need for the registration of that exemption.
