Global workshop on developing, revising and updating national implementation plans (NIPs) under the Stockholm Convention

Highlights

The members of the effectiveness evaluation committee reviewed the preliminary analysis for the effectiveness evaluation of the Stockholm Convention prepared by the Secretariat and provided comments and suggestions regarding the application of the framework, including possible amendments to it, and identified information gaps and need for further work in view of developing the effectiveness evaluation report for consideration at COP-8.

The members of the committee noted the critical importance of additional sources of data before drawing conclusions and making recommendations on whether the Convention is achieving its objective.  They requested its Chair and Vice-chair to send a letter to all national focal points of the Convention to reiterate the COP-7 request for the submission of outstanding third national reports, a key information basis for the successful completion of the committee’s work. Reports submitted by April 30th can still be taken into account in the committee’s review of the effectiveness of the Convention.

The second meeting of the committee will be held in  Geneva, Switzerland, from 4 to 7 October 2016, back-to-back with the meeting of the coordination group for the global monitoring plan.

Target audience
