Stockholm Convention Regional Centre in Kenya is hosted by ICIPE, an international organization of its kind. Established in Kenya as a national institute in 1970, ICIPE adopted a new charter in 1987 to become an international centre in the field of insect study. ICIPE undertakes research in integrated control methodologies for crop and livestock insect pests and other related arthropods, and insect vectors of tropical diseases and the strengthening of scientific and technological capacities of the developing countries in insect science and its application through training and collaborative work.
The centre is nominated by the Africa region to serve as Stockholm Convention regional centre in July 2010 and has been endorsed in 2011 as regional or subregional centre for capacity building and the transfer of technology by COP 5 for four years.
