The Register of Acceptable Purposes for the persistent organic pollutants was amended at the fourth and ninth meetings of the Conference of the Parties.
The acceptable purposes in relation to Perflurooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), its salts and perfluorooctane sulfonyl fluoride (PFOSF) were added to Annex B by decision SC-4/17 which entered into force for most Parties on 26 August 2010. The amendments adopted by decision SC-9/4 will enter into force for most Parties on 3 December 2020. The acceptable purposes that will then be available are listed in decision SC 9/4 and will be reflected on the Register as of 3 December 2020.
However, these amendments will not enter into force with respect to those Parties that: i) have submitted a notification pursuant to the provisions of paragraph 3(b) of Article 22 of the Convention or ii) have made declarations regarding the amendments to the Annexes in accordance with paragraph 4 of article 25 of the Convention and not agreed to be bound by the amendments.
