Highlights: The expert meeting on Best Available Techniques (BAT) and Best Environmental Practices (BEP) under the Stockholm Convention was held from 7 to 9 November 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The aim of the meeting was to take stock of the status of work, discuss the intersessional processes in accordance with the workplan for review and update of the guidelines and guidance on BAT and BEP agreed to at the eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties (decision SC-11/5 and document UNEP/POPS/COP.11/8, annex II), and to agree on further steps for finalizing the guidelines/guidance to be submitted to the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties.
The experts exchanged views and latest information and provided updates on the six work arears outlined in the workplan, agreed on a set of revisions of those existing guidance/guidelines, and agreed on outlines and information sources for the development of the new guidance. The experts also agreed on detailed workplans, and on the Task Teams composition, for advancing the work during the 2023–2024 intersessional period.
