  • African States: 8
  • Asian and Pacific States: 8
  • Central and Eastern European States: 3
  • Latin American and Caribbean States: 5
  • Western European and other States: 7

Members of the Committee are government-designated experts in chemical assessment or management. The Conference of the Parties confirms the appointment of the experts nominated by parties, on the basis of equitable geographical distribution, taking into account gender and the need for a balance between different types of expertise.

Each member serves for a term of four years from the date of appointment, and for no more than two consecutive terms.

The terms of reference of the POPs Review Committee is set out in decision SC-1/7, amended by decisions SC-4/20 and SC-5/11.

Each member of the committee signs a declaration of interest as set out in decision SC-1/8 prior to participating in the work of the committee.

Paragraph 10 of the terms of reference provides for the establishment of a roster of experts who are not members of the Committee that the Committee may invite to support it in its work. Parties may designate experts for inclusion in the roster, noting their areas of expertise or specific substance knowledge. The criteria to be taken into consideration when selecting experts are set out in decision POPRC-1/2.
