Decision SC-5/5: Work programme on BDEs and PFOS

By decision SC-5/5, the Conference of the Parties adopted a work programme on brominated diphenyl ethers and perfluorooctane sulfonate, its salts and perfluorooctane sulfonyl fluoride.

The decision takes note of the recommendations of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee on the elimination of brominated diphenyl ethers from the waste stream and on risk reduction for perfluorooctane sulfonate, its salts and perfluorooctane sulfonyl fluoride and the key findings and gaps identified by the Committee in the submissions by parties and observers. Parties are invited to submit information on their experiences in implementing the recommendations, where applicable, or other actions that have the same objectives, to the Secretariat no later than six months before the sixth meeting of the Conference of the Parties. The Secretariat will prepare a compilation of the information received for consideration by the Conference of the Parties at its sixth meeting and transmit it to the appropriate bodies of the Basel Convention.

Parties in a position to do so are, however, invited to submit the requested information.

The information should be submitted preferably by e-mail to:
