Draft guidance on identification and management of sites contaminated with persistent organic pollutants

This draft guidance document has been developed to guide Parties in their actions to minimize and prevent releases of POPs from contaminated sites.

Scope

This draft guidance has been developed with the support of the experts on Best Available Techniques (BAT) and Best Environmental Practices (BEP) under the Stockholm Convention, to guide Parties in the identification, assessment, management, and remediation of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) contaminated sites.

This guidance also provides information to protect human health in the process of assessment and remediation of sites.

Main target audience

Staff responsible for developing action plans for the identification, assessment, management, and remediation of POPs contaminated sites and technical staff involved in their implementation.

The draft guidance is being updated taking into account comments received from Parties and others with the support of the Joint Toolkit and best available techniques and best environmental practices expert roster.

Parties and observers are invited to submit comments on the May 2024 version of the guidance by 1 July 2024 using the attached form for providing comments.
