Observers

The twenty-second meeting of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee is open to:

  • Parties to the Stockholm Convention, which shall be treated as observers in accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Conference of the Parties for the purpose of their participation in the Committee; and
  • Observers, in accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Conference of the Parties.

To participate in the twenty-second meeting of the POPs Review Committee as observers:

  • Representatives of Parties to the Stockholm Convention; United Nations and its specialized agencies; International Atomic Energy Agency; any State not Party to the Convention; or bodies or agencies that have already been admitted as observers to the Stockholm Convention:
    • Please register before Friday, 14 August 2026 using the FAO online registration system available here.
    • Please submit a nomination letter from your organization at the latest at the same time as submitting your online registration by email to: laurence.attouz@un.org. This nomination letter needs to be an official communication from your organization e.g. using the official letterhead, stating that you are entitled to represent the body or entity at the meeting, and signed by a duly authorized representative.

  • Representatives of bodies or agencies that have not previously attended a meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention or its subsidiary bodies:
    • Please apply for admission as an observer by filling in the application form and submitting it to the Secretariat by email to yvonne.ewang-sanvincent@un.org no later than 7 August 2026.
    • The following information should be provided with the completed application form:
      • Information describing the body or agency;
      • Information on the affiliation of the body or agency with non-governmental organizations or institutions;
      • Information on the programmes and activities undertaken by the body or agency / its qualification in matters covered by the Stockholm Convention;
      • Description of any network or membership system.

Upon confirmation by the Secretariat that the requesting body or agency appears to meet the relevant criteria, each representative will also need to register online using the online FAO event registration system available here before 14 August 2026 and submit a nomination letter by email to laurence.attouz@un.org.

The observer admission procedure does not apply to observers from Parties to the Convention or to observers from the United Nations and its specialized agencies; the International Atomic Energy Agency; as well as any State not Party to the Stockholm Convention. Representatives of Parties and those bodies can submit the registration form as indicated above.
