Geneva, Switzerland from 05 May to 07 May 2026
Venue: International Environment House - II (IEH-II), Room Rhone, 7-9 Chemin de Balexert, Châtelaine, Geneva, Switzerland
Highlights: At its tenth meeting in 2022, the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention (SC COP) adopted decision SC-10/6 on DDT where the COP initiated the intersessional process of consultations with Parties in the DDT register on a possible phase-out plan.
At its twelfth meeting in May 2025, the SC COP adopted decision SC-12/2 on DDT in which it decided to continue, subject to the availability of resources, through the DDT expert group, the intersessional process of consultations with Parties in the DDT register on a possible phase out plan for DDT and withdrawal from the DDT register. The COP also requested the Secretariat, subject to the availability of resources, to support this process. The Secretariat has organized two online meetings with Parties in the DDT register, members of the DDT Expert Group and UNEP and WHO representatives and a third face-to-face meeting of the intersessional process of consultations in Geneva in 2024 to give Parties a platform to exchange ideas and discuss possible phase out plans for DDT and withdrawal from the DDT register.
This meeting will support the next evaluation of the continued need for DDT for disease vector control pursuant to paragraph 6 of part II of Annex B and ultimately contributing to the phase-out of DDT. Parties will be assisted with their possible phase out plans and the meeting will also support Parties by creating a forum for exchange of ideas, information and lessons learned, strengthening regional cooperation to accelerate towards a complete phase-out of DDT whilst still being able to combat malaria in an efficient way.
The Secretariat gratefully acknowledges the European Union for its generous financial support for the organization of this meeting.
