Review and update of the guidelines and guidance on best available techniques and best environmental practices

Background

The process for the review and update of the guidelines and guidance on best available techniques and best environmental practices is ongoing in accordance with decision SC-8/6 and is conducted by the experts nominated by Parties and others through the joint Toolkit and best available techniques and best environmental practices expert roster. By decision SC-8/6 the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention adopted the terms of reference for and the workplan of the experts on the review and update of the guidelines on best available techniques and best environmental practices relevant to the persistent organic pollutants listed in Annex C and of the guidance on best available techniques and best environmental practices relevant to the persistent organic pollutants listed in Annex A or Annex B to the Convention.

By decision SC-12/5, the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention welcomed the conclusions and recommendations of the experts on the Toolkit and on BAT and BEP (UNEP/POPS/COP.12/8/Rev.1, annex I), and requested the experts to continue the work on the ongoing review and update of the guidelines and guidance in accordance with the workplan set out in document UNEP/POPS/COP.12/8/Rev.1, annex II.

Submission of information on BAT/BEP pursuant to decision SC-12/5

At the twelfth meeting, the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention invited Parties and observers to contribute to the further review and update of the guidelines and guidance by submitting information on the successful application of best available techniques and best environmental practices relevant to the chemicals listed in Annexes A, B and C to the Convention and other technical information.
