3rd meeting of the Intersessional Process of consultations on DDT (IP3)

Geneva, Switzerland from 04 to 06 June 2024

Venue: International Environment House - I (IEH-I), Room 3, 11-13 Chemin des Anémones, Châtelaine, Geneva, Switzerland

Highlights: At its tenth meeting in June 2022, the COP to the Stockholm Convention adopted decision SC-10/6 on DDT. In SC-10/6, the COP decided to initiate, subject to the availability of resources, through the DDT expert group, an intersessional process of consultations with those Parties that were in the DDT register as 1 January 2023 on a possible phase-out plan, and requested the DDT Expert Group to report to the COP at its 11th meeting on the prospects for phasing out DDT for those Parties. The COP also requested the Secretariat, subject to the availability of resources, to support this process. Two online meetings were held with Parties in the DDT register, members of the DDT Expert Group and UNEP and WHO representatives.

At its eleventh meeting in May 2023, the COP to the Stockholm Convention adopted decision SC-11/2 on DDT in which it decided to continue, subject to the availability of resources, through the DDT expert group, the intersessional process of consultations with Parties in the DDT register on a possible phase out plan for DDT and withdrawal from the DDT register. The COP also requested the Secretariat, subject to the availability of resources, to support this process. The Secretariat organized the third meeting of the intersessional process of consultations with Parties in the DDT Register as a face-to-face meeting in Geneva to give Parties a platform to exchange ideas and discuss possible phase out plans for DDT and withdrawal from the DDT register.

The Secretariat gratefully acknowledges the European Union for its generous financial support for the organization of this meeting.
