Draft guidance on the identification and management of sites contaminated with persistent organic pollutants
The work to collect and evaluate information relevant to the identification and management of sites contaminated by POPs for developing relevant guidance has been identified by the experts as a priority area of work within their workplan.
This guidance document, which aims to guide Parties in their actions to minimize and prevent releases of POPs from contaminated sites, is currently being updated with the support of the expert roster and taking into account comments received from Parties and observers. An updated May 2024 version of the revised guidance has been posted here for review by Parties and observers by 1 August 2024 (extended deadline).

The draft guidance is being updated taking into account comments received from Parties and others with the support of the Joint Toolkit and best available techniques and best environmental practices expert roster.
Parties and observers are invited to submit comments on the May 2024 version of the guidance by 1 August 2024 (extended deadline).

At the online segment of the tenth meeting, the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention invited Parties and observers to provide comments on the initial draft guidance on the identification and management of sites contaminated with persistent organic pollutants (UNEP/POPS/COP.10/INF/67) by 1 December 2021. The comments received have been made available here.
