1. At its seventeenth meeting, the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee adopted decision POPRC-17/2, on Dechlorane Plus (see UNEP/POPS/POPRC.17/13, annex I). In paragraph 3 of that decision, the Committee decided to establish an intersessional working group to prepare a risk management evaluation that included an analysis of possible control measures for Dechlorane Plus, in accordance with Annex F to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants.

At its seventeenth meeting, in decision POPRC-17/7, the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee decided to establish intersessional working groups on decabromodiphenyl ether and on short-chain chlorinated paraffins to update the reports on the review of information related to specific exemptions for those chemicals, taking into account the information provided pursuant to paragraphs 1 and 2 of the decision, the outcomes of the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants and any relevant information that might subsequently be received in accordance with decisions adopted at that meeting, for consideration by the Conference of the Parties at its eleventh meeting. In the same decision, the Committee agreed to work in accordance with the workplan set out in the annex to document UNEP/POPS/POPRC.17/INF/12/Rev.1.

1. Paragraph 5 of part III of Annex B to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants provides that the Conference of the Parties is to evaluate the continued need for perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), its salts and perfluorooctane sulfonyl fluoride (PFOSF) for the various acceptable purposes and specific exemptions listed in Annex B, on the basis of available scientific, technical, environmental and economic information. According to paragraph 6 of part III of Annex B, the evaluation was to take place no later than in 2015 and every four years thereafter, in conjunction with a regular meeting of the Conference of the Parties.

At its seventeenth meeting, in decision POPRC-17/10, the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee requested the intersessional working group on long-range environmental transport established at its sixteenth meeting to further develop the draft document for the Committee on its consideration of long-range environmental transport and agreed to work in accordance with the workplan set out in the annex to document UNEP/POPS/POPRC.17/INF/16/Rev.1.

1. In accordance with paragraph 28 of its terms of reference, the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee prepares, for each of its meetings, risk profiles and risk management evaluations as required by Article 8 of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. To undertake this task, the Committee establishes an intersessional working group for each chemical and agrees on a workplan for completing the draft risk profiles and risk management evaluations.

I. Opening of the meeting

1. The eighteenth meeting of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee was held at the headquarters of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, Viale delle Terme di Caracalla, Rome, from 26 to 30 September 2022.

At its eighteenth meeting, in decision POPRC-18/1, the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee adopted a risk management evaluation for Dechlorane Plus on the basis of the draft text contained in document UNEP/POPS/POPRC.18/2/Add.1, as revised during the meeting. The text of the risk management evaluation as adopted is set out in the annex to the present addendum, without formal editing.

At its eighteenth meeting, in decision POPRC-18/2, the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee adopted a risk management evaluation for UV-328 on the basis of the draft text contained in document UNEP/POPS/POPRC.18/3/Add.1, as revised during the meeting. The text of the risk management evaluation as adopted is set out in the annex to the present addendum, without formal editing.

At its eighteenth meeting, by its decision POPRC-18/4, the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee adopted a risk profile for chlorinated paraffins with carbon chain lengths in the range C14 17 and chlorination levels at or exceeding 45 per cent chlorine by weight on the basis of the draft contained in the note by the Secretariat (UNEP/POPS/POPRC.18/5/Add.1), as revised during the meeting. The text of the risk profile as adopted is set out in the annex to the present addendum. It has not been formally edited.

At its eighteenth meeting, by its decision POPRC-18/5, the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee adopted a risk profile for long-chain perfluorocarboxylic acids, their salts and related compounds on the basis of the draft contained in the note by the Secretariat (UNEP/POPS/POPRC.18/6/Add.1), as revised during the meeting. The text of the risk profile as adopted is set out in the annex to the present addendum. It has not been formally edited.

In its decision SC-10/1, on the election of members of subsidiary bodies under the Stockholm Convention adopted at the online segment of the tenth meeting held from 26 to 30 July 2021, the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention on the Persistent Organic Pollutants confirmed the appointments of Ms. Ingrid Hauzenberger (Austria), Mr. Greg Hammond (Canada), Mr. Ved Prakash Mishra (India) and Mr. Syed Mujtaba Hussain (Pakistan), replacing the members previously designated by the respective Parties. The Conference of the Parties extended until the closure of the tenth meeting the terms of office of the 17 members of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee with terms of office otherwise ending on 4 May 2022.
