Seventh Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention

Summary of outcomes: About 1,200 participants took part in the Conference, which was held from 4 to 15 May 2015, back-to-back with the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention (BC COP-12) and the seventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Rotterdam Convention (RC COP-7). The meetings included joint sessions among two or three of the conferences of the parties on joint issues. The theme for the meetings was ‘From science to action, working for a safer tomorrow’.

The seventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention adopted 33 decisions, including six identical ones for the three meetings of the conference of the parties. Some of the main outcomes of the Conference included the adoption of decisions listing hexachlorobutadiene, pentachlorophenol and its salts and esters, and polychlorinated naphthalenes to the Convention. Other major outcomes concern the adoption of decisions on exemptions, DDT, PCBs, BDEs, PFOS, unintentional POPs, BAT and BEP, POPs wastes, implementation plans, technical assistance, financial resources and mechanisms, reporting and effectiveness evaluation.

Election of officers

At its seventh meeting, the Conference of the Parties to the Rotterdam Convention elected a new Bureau and members of subsidiary bodies under the Convention.
