Technical assistance needs assessment for 2012-2013
For each biennium, the Technical Assistance programme of the Secretariat is developed based on the needs identified by developing country Parties or Parties with economies in transition in order to implement the Convention.
In decision SC-5/20 (paragraph 2), the fifth meeting of the Conference of the Parties invited developing country Parties and Parties with economies in transition to provide information to the Secretariat on their technical assistance and technology transfer needs and the barriers and obstacles in that regard. An online questionnaire was used to facilitate the submission of responses through Official Contact Points between January and March 2012. The deadline for submissions is now over.
As a follow-up to decision SC-5/20 (paragraph 3), information requests were also sent out to the Official Contact Points of developed countries on 8 August 2012, inviting them to provide information on the technical assistance and technologies they have available to be transferred to developing-country Parties and Parties with economies in transition (and barriers and obstacles in that regard) by 14 September 2012.
The results of the two questionnaires have been analyzed and will be submitted to the sixth meeting of the Conference of the Parties in April 2013, as part of a progress report on the application of the guidance on technical assistance and transfer of environmentally sound technology (SC-1/15).
