Technical assistance needs assessment to implement the Stockholm Convention

The Technical Assistance programme is developed on the basis of, among others, the needs identified by developing country Parties or Parties with economies in transition to implement the Stockholm Convention.

To identify such needs, the Secretariat uses a variety of information sources. The main sources of information are: direct requests for assistance from Parties, National Implementation Plans, national reports and specific questionnaires, which are carried out every 4 years.

The information on Parties' needs to implement the Convention collected by the Secretariat is analyzed and presented to Parties through the Secretariat webpage and official meeting documents. The needs can be clustered into different areas such as technical, legal, coordination and cooperation, and information exchange. The identified needs can also be compared with those technical assistance activities that have already been provided to each Party, to monitor the progress and impact of the Technical Assistance programme.

Additional information about the needs assessment questionnaires for all three Conventions is located on the Synergies Needs Assessment webpage.
