Kuwait City, Kuwait, 17 - 21 October 2010

The regional workshop on the practical use of the BAT/BEP guidelines and the ESM of POPs wastes and PCBs for Arabic-speaking countries was held in Kuwait City on 17-21 October 2010 in cooperation with the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), a Stockholm Convention Regional Centre.

Over 40 participants participated in the workshop including experts from governments, non-governmental organizations, academia/universities and private sector organizations from country Parties in Arabic-speaking countries, Iran (Islamic Republic of) and Turkey

Beijing, China, 16 - 20 November 2009

The regional workshop on the BAT/BEP guidelines and the ESM of POPs wastes and PCBs for Asia took place from 16 to 20 November in Beijing, China. The workshop, which was co-organised by the Basel Convention Coordinating Centre in China (also Stockholm Convention centre), gathered a total of 55 participants from 15 governments, 12 non-governmental organizations, academia/universities and private sector organizations from countries within Asia that are Parties to the Stockholm Convention.

Bucharest, Romania, 2 - 5 November 2009

Training and capacity building on implementation of Article 5 and practical use of the Guidelines on BAT&BEP in conjunction with the Regional BAT and BEP Forum for Central and Eastern Europe, Caucasus, and Central Asia (CEECCA) to Promote Strategies to Reduce or Eliminate Unintentionally Produced POPs from Industry.

The Secretariat of the Stockholm Convention is joining forces with the Stockholm Convention Unit of the Environmental Management Branch of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

The Secretariat will held a one day training in practical use of the Guidelines on Best Available Techniques and Best Environmental Practices relevant to Article 5 and Annex C of the Stockholm Convention on 2nd of November 2009 in conjunction with the Launching meeting of the Regional BAT and BEP Forum for Central and Eastern Europe, Caucasus, and Central Asia (CEECCA) to Promote Strategies to Reduce or Eliminate Unintentionally Produced POPs from Industry jointly organized by the Stockholm Convention Unit of the Environmental Management Branch of UNIDO, and the Ministry of Environment of Romania, to be held from 3rd to 5th November 2009 in Bucharest, Romania.

Note: Organization matters related to the event, including sending of invitation letters, will be handled by the Ministry of Environment of Romania.

Nairobi, Kenya, 15 - 19 June 2009

The Regional capacity building workshop on the Best Available Techniques and Best Environmental Practices (BAT/BEP) guidelines and the Environmentally Sound Management (ESM) of POPs wastes and PCBs for English-speaking countries in Africa took place from 15 to 19 June 2009 in Gigiri, UNEP Headquarters, Nairobi, Kenya. The workshop, which was co-organized by UNEP Regional Office for Africa (ROA), gathered a total of 72 participants from 24 country Parties, NGOs, universities, environmental institutes, regional business organizations and individual companies from Anglophone Africa
