Technical assistance needs assessment to implement the Stockholm Convention

For each biennium, the Technical Assistance programme of the Secretariat is developed on the basis of, among others, the needs identified by developing country parties or parties with economies in transition to implement the Stockholm Convention.

To identify such needs, the Secretariat uses a variety of information sources. The main sources of information are: direct requests for assistance from parties, National Implementation Plans, national reports and specific surveys, which are carried out every 2 years.

A database has been developed to centralize the information collected on parties' needs to implement the Convention. The database will allow for analysis of data on a regional and thematic basis. The needs will be clustered into different areas such as technical, legal, coordination and cooperation, and information exchange. The database will also allow the comparison of identified needs with those technical assistance activities that have already been provided to each party, to monitor the progress and impact of the Technical Assistance programme. The database has been developed thanks to the support of EU funding.
