Contest rules

  1. National entries must be submitted through your country’s Official Contact Point (OCP). Entries will be received by the Stockholm Convention Secretariat between 1 January and 16 March 2012.
  2. Each country can submit a maximum number of 27 entries (9 for each category of art media, in which 3 per age category).
  3. The entry must be an original drawing, photography or video created by the contest participant.
  4. All entries need to be properly labelled (on the back of the drawings or on the CD/DVD for the photography or video). The label must indicate:
    • Category of art media (drawing or photography or short video)
    • First name / last name
    • Age category and date of birth
    • Email (of parent or guardian if participant is under 18 years old)

  5. All entries must be accompanied by the registration form duly completed and a photocopy of your passport or national identity document (or another proof of age).
  6. All shipping costs are the responsibility of the submitter.
  7. Each participant can only submit one entry per art media category (but each participant can submit an entry in each of the three art media categories).
  8. Only one participant per entry is allowed for drawings and photography (whereas teamwork is allowed for videos, provided team members are from the same age category).
  9. By participating in the contest, the participant acknowledges and warrants that the submitted entry does not infringe applicable laws and regulations, including the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest in the submitted entry.
  10. The entry shall not violate the title rights, copyright, royalties and other rights of whatsoever nature in any material produced by or in relation to the activities of the Secretariat of the Stockholm Convention (SSC), which shall be retained by SSC. The participant shall only use the Stockholm Convention name, logo and emblem in connection with the activities under the present contest and with the prior written informed consent of SSC or as may otherwise have been approved by SSC within the context of its activities. In no event will authorization of the Stockholm Convention name, logo or emblem, or any abbreviation thereof, be granted for commercial purposes.
  11. The entry must not contain obscene, defamatory, profane, libellous, threatening, harassing, abusive, hateful, provocative or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content, which would violate applicable laws and regulations, including on privacy, the rights of any individual or entity.
  12. The Secretariat of the Stockholm Convention reserves the right to reject, delete or edit any content that it considers unacceptable or inappropriate.
  13. By entering this contest, participants agree not to have their entries returned to them.
  14. By entering this contest, participants acknowledge that they are aware that their entries will also be used for outreach activities at the discretion of the Secretariat of the Stockholm Convention, and agree to it.
  15. The decision on the winning entries is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  16. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with the contest shall be settled amicably. Should attempts at amicable negotiation fail, any such dispute shall, upon request by either party, be referred to arbitration in accordance with the UNCITRAL arbitration rules. The Parties shall be bound by any arbitration award rendered as a result of such arbitration as the final adjudication of any such controversy, claim or dispute.
  17. The participant shall not be considered in any respect as being employee or agent of the Secretariat, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) or the United Nations Organization.
  18. SSC shall not accept any liability for claims arising out of the activities performed in the context of the contest, or any claims for death, bodily injury, disability, damage to property or other hazards that may be suffered by the participant or any other person as a result of their activities in the context of the contest.
  19. The participant shall refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on SSC, UNEP and the United Nations Organization shall not engage in any activity which is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations, UNEP, and SSC.
  20. Nothing in or relating to the contest shall be deemed a waiver, express or implied, of any of the privileges and immunities of the United Nations, UNEP and SSC.
  21. Relatives of the staff of the Stockholm Convention Secretariat are not allowed to participate in the contest.

  3. 16-20 years old as of 1 January 2012:
