Highlights

The Bureau of the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the Stockholm Convention met on 5 October 2010 in Geneva, Switzerland, to discuss the preparation and approve the agenda of the upcoming meeting of the Conference of the Parties.

The Bureau reviewed progress in the implementation of decisions taken by the COP at its previous meeting and the implementation of the omnibus decision adopted by the conferences of the Parties of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions at their simultaneous extraordinary meeting held from 22 to 24 February 2010.

The Secretariat presented the Bureau a number of possible new activities that will be proposed to the Conference of the Parties for its consideration, namely the Brokering Service, the Safe Planet campaign, the POPs free products programme and the Small Grants Programme.

On the current workplan and budget, the Secretariat reported that activities were being undertaken according to schedule and within approved budget levels.

The Bureau decided that the upcoming meeting of the Conference of the Parties will be conducted as a paperless meeting. In-session documents will not be available in paper, but electronically over a wireless intranet or memory sticks. Delegates are highly encouraged to bring their own laptop computers to the meeting.

Six members of the Bureau participated in this meeting. On the Secretariat side, Donald Cooper and David Ogden along with several other staff members were present.
